Alvin has been enjoying his journey since his mid-career switch to be a professional counsellor more than 10 years ago. He has seen his clients having a new perspectives in their struggles and experiencing breakthroughs in their lives. His approach is humanistic-existential, exploring experiences to understand the clients' life journey and identifying areas with the client to be disentagled. Together, he ventures with the client, shedding light on perspectives and meaning, and imparting skills to empower the client. He also facilitates the activation of the inner healing capabilities of clients when they are ready.

Alvin works with peoples of all ages and background. Some of the knots he has disentangled with clients include eating disorders, grief and loss, emotional dysregulation, expat adjustment, parent-child relationship challenges, pre-marital preparation, couples, school refusal, bullying, moral injuries, teenage/adult substance abuse. Many of his clients also presented with physical/sexual assault, severe childhood adversities, pain, traumatic brain injuries or medically unexplained conditions resulting from serious incidents. Alvin's heart is for the youth, who are often misunderstood, or passed over by significant adults in their lives. Half of his life was spent mentoring and coaching teens in various capacities, including being their voice.

Alvin believes that certification in specific modalities of choice is essential. He is fully certified in EMDR Therapy and Choice-Theory/Reality Therapy (CTRT) and is certified in Level 2 of Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). He is also a registered qualified test user (RQTU) and graduate member with the British Psychological Society. He is able to administer various psychometrics such as MBTI, TJTA, FIRO-B, occupational testing and clinical screens. Locally, Alvin is a registered full member with the Singapore Psychological Society, and Master Clinical Member of the Singapore Association for Counselling. Alvin holds a MSc (Psychological Studies, with Merit) from the University of Glasgow and a Master in Counselling from Monash University. His undergraduate background was in Chemical Engineering from the University of Melbourne.
